BRIEF PROFILE ON ALHAJI ABUBAKAR MALAM ABUBAKAR
Alhaji Abubakar Malam is a retired Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs. He is currently a businessman and a farmer.
PERSONAL BACKGROUND
Alhaji Abubakar Malam was born in Birnin Kebbi in Kebbi State of Nigeria on the 28th of April 1956. He is married with children.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Alhaji Malam started his western education in 1965 when he was enrolled for his primary education at Central Primary School, Birnin Kebbi. He passed out in 1971 and proceeded to the famous Barewa College for his Secondary School education from 1972 to 1976. Having passed the West African School Certificate examination, he was accepted into the School of Basic Studies Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria for his `A' levels. On successful completion of the `A' levels, he was admitted into Almadu Bello University, Zaria in 1977 where he bagged a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science and graduated in 1980.
CAREER BACKGROUND
After the successful completion of the mandatory National Youth Service, Alhaji Malam began his ascension in the Civil Service having been appointed into then Sokoto State Government as an Assistant Secretary in July 1983. Between July 1983 when he took up his first appointment to June 1989, Alhaji Abubakar Malam served in various capacities in the Sokoto State Government and was rewarded by regular promotions until he attained the rank of Under Secretary. Desirous for new challenges, contributions on a wider scale to his nation, he sought and got the transfer of his services from the Sokoto State Government to the Federal Government's Nigeria Customs Service. He transferred his services effective from 5th June 1989 as an Assistant Comptroller of Customs. After the mandatory six months Basic Training at the Customs Training College, Ikeja, Lagos, Malam settled down to the onerous task of being a revenue collector that he did successfully as testimony will show later. Due to sheer diligence that always produced glowing results, from June 1989 to May 2002, Malam served the Nigeria Customs Service in six different sensitive positions. As with the Sokoto State Government, the Federal Government equally rewarded him with deserving promotions. From a humble beginning with the rank of an Assistant Comptroller, he rose to the rank of Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs. LF
